19th Jun | Woodwards Garden Visit

20948 (06)Capel Ladies’ Club members enjoyed a delightful summer evening walk around the privately-owned Woodward Gardens in Coddenham on 19th June. The owners, Richard and Marion Kenward, opened the gardens, part of the National Garden Scheme, especially for Capel Ladies. Members commented on the wonderful plants in the borders, the immaculate lawns and colourful shrubs and flowers. The hosts provided refreshments and there was an opportunity to buy plants. A return visit is planned.

7th Jun | Capel Ladies’ Capel Fun Day stall

Capel Ladies Club’s Cake and Games’ stall at the village Fun Day  on 7th June was organised by Linda Evans and very well supported by members. The cakes were all baked by members and the stall was a sell-out! There were also some table-top games which were enjoyed by parents as well as children! The stall raised £180 of which £40 came from the games. Capel Ladies will decide at their next meeting where to distribute the money. It was a real fun day for members!

5th Jun | Summer Social (D-Day Special)

Thirty-five ladies dressed in red, white and blue commemorated the 70th anniversary of D-Day on 5th June 2014. They were attending their annual summer social held in the Community Centre’s Vine Lounge which was decorated with Union Flags and red, white and blue bunting. The table cloths and napkins also reflected the patriotic mood. There was an excellent buffet with a D-Day themed cake and a film show, The Glen Miller Story, all of which were greatly enjoyed.

Whilst enjoying the evening, the ladies were also very aware of the sacrifice of the soldiers who stormed the Normandy beaches all those years ago.
