Our May “coffee and cakes” outing was to Hearts Delight Garden Centre at Lawford, where we had a pleasant afternoon looking around at the plants and gifts as well as enjoying some delicious cakes. Amongst many other things they also sell clothing, and one of our number bought a jacket, as well!

Our “In” Meeting in June was the Summer Social, a special one to mark the end of an era for Capel Ladies as the existing Club is due to close in July, much to the regret of our members. The Library was decorated with bunting and balloons, and there were tables set out with coloured tablecloths, so it looked very festive. On this occasion we were due to be entertained by Mr Smooth, who played for us last year at this time, but unfortunately, he was unwell, so some friends of his in the shape of Lorri & Gray, a husband-and-wife duo, stood in for him, and proved to be just as versatile, singing and playing lots of great numbers from country and western, to Irish folk songs and familiar pop tunes from our younger days, which we all sang along to!

Halfway through the evening we had an interlude to enjoy the delicious finger buffet, prepared by Marie Barker, and a glass of wine or elderflower presse provided by the Club. Then, after the Summer Raffle prizes had been drawn, there was time for some more music, and several ladies took to the floor for a bit of a dance. Di Barker wound up the evening thanking the duo, and also mentioned Sue Woolgar who has written all the Club reports in Capel Capers over the years, and designed posters for all our events, and Linda Morrison – who has put them on display all around the local area each month. We still have three events to go before the end of the summer; our next Coffee and Cake outing is to Constable Park at Brantham in June, then a visit to the Orchard Players’ Summer Show in July, followed by our final summer lunch at Hintlesham Golf Club on July 20th.

The end of an era – but fingers crossed a new club hopes to rise from the ashes of this one! Watch this space!
