September 2023 report

Twenty-five members of Capel Ladies Club met at Hintlesham Golf Club in July for their Farewell Lunch. It was a happy, if rather poignant, occasion. The food was delicious and the staff at the Golf Club were very attentive and helpful, and the mood was a positive one. After the lunch, Chairlady Di Barker said a few words about all the fun times the Club had enjoyed in the past, and mentioned some of the varied activities that members had taken part in over the years. These included Ladies football matches, disco nights, running children’s parties and raising money for a colour TV for Capel Ward in Ipswich Hospital, amongst many others. Over the years members have come and gone, but there are still members who have been coming to the club for over three decades!

Although this is the end of an era for Capel Ladies Club, there are a good number of ladies who are keen for some sort of social meeting hub to continue into the future, and we do have plans to set that in motion. WATCH THIS SPACE! We will welcome ladies from any age group who like social gatherings and who enjoy a variety of things, such as interesting speakers, theatre visits, making friends, and finding out about topics of all kinds. We also eat out from time to time and run socials in the summer and at Christmas. What’s not to like? More information coming soon!

Meanwhile, if you would like to reminisce and remind yourselves about Capel Ladies Club’s past activities, you can still visit the website for a browse! Au Revoir for now!

August 2023 report

On a lovely June afternoon, a group of Capel Ladies Club members met together for coffee and cakes at Constable Park, the water sports and camping centre near Brantham. No – we weren’t going to take to our canoes or anything like that – it was just a good opportunity for a chat over tasty refreshments amid very pleasant surroundings. One of our last coffee and cake afternoons under the title of Capel Ladies Club, which – after nearly 55 years – is closing at the end of July! But never fear – there is a new club on the horizon, as lots of us didn’t want closure and are still keen to meet up as a group. WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

Our second activity this month was our annual summer visit to the Orchard Players’ Summer Show at the start of July, called ‘It’s ShowTime’. And WHAT a show it was! Packed full of well-known and less familiar songs from the musicals! With some wonderful performances from the junior members, plus both stirring and emotional items from the adults. It was a lovely, lively mix!

Great choreography, and always something to watch on stage, and the live band were brilliant as usual! Such a variety of outfits, too, with lots of costume changes and plenty of sparkles glittering under the lights! So many words to learn, tunes to sing and moves to perfect – all performed without a hitch! Congratulations, Orchard Players, on another fabulous show!

Just our Summer Farewell Lunch to go, now, for Capel Ladies Club, at the Hintlesham Golf Club at the end of July. Watch out, though – something NEW is on the horizon…

…so, WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
