Capel Ladies Club’s May excursion to the Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese Farm, an outstanding county business on the A140 at Creeting St Mary, was a great success.
Twenty-nine members were escorted on a tour of the milking parlour for the herd of Guernsey cows, and shown the dairy and cheese-making area by the owners, Jason and Katherine Salisbury.
Following redundancy and against all advice, the Salisburys started their farm venture by renting property and buying Guernsey cows. With a niche in the market, they decided to make local cheeses.

In 2009, the Salisburys moved just two-and-a-half miles with 40 cows to take over a redundant pig unit. There is a shop on the farm which they hope to extend this year and they also have plans to open a delicatessen. Capel Ladies came away from the farm with selections of cheese, pork, beef and sausages. They didn’t need to say cheese to produce big smiles!
