7th Jun | Capel Ladies’ Capel Fun Day stall

Capel Ladies Club’s Cake and Games’ stall at the village Fun Day  on 7th June was organised by Linda Evans and very well supported by members. The cakes were all baked by members and the stall was a sell-out! There were also some table-top games which were enjoyed by parents as well as children! The stall raised £180 of which £40 came from the games. Capel Ladies will decide at their next meeting where to distribute the money. It was a real fun day for members!

15th May | Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese (Farm Outing)

Capel Ladies Club’s May excursion to the Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese Farm, an outstanding county business on the A140 at Creeting St Mary, was a great success.

Twenty-nine members were escorted on a tour of the milking parlour for the herd of Guernsey cows, and shown the dairy and cheese-making area by the owners, Jason and Katherine Salisbury. Continue reading

17th Apr | ‘Betty Blue Eyes’ theatre visit

A Night for Pignapping!

bettyposterIt was back in time for 20 Capel Ladies, to November 1947 for their April 2014 theatre outing, to watch the antics of a chiropodist and his wife who kidnapped an unlicensed little pink pig called Betty Blue Eyes which was being fattened up for a banquet to celebrate the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Ipswich’s Wolsey Theatre was the ideal venue for the production of this musical comedy because the theatre’s seating arrangement allowed the audience to feel part of the action on stage.

The cast gave a very slick professional performance throughout the production. Capel Ladies left the theatre having enjoyed the feel-good factor provided by the show with its catchy songs, great choreographed chorus numbers and a puppeteer who brought Betty to life so vividly on stage that we wanted to pignap her home with us!

20th Mar | Annual Dinner at The King’s Head, East Bergholt

Capel Ladies’ annual dinner was held at the beautifully refurbished King’s Head in East Bergholt on 20th March. Twenty-five members enjoyed an excellent three-course meal with a complimentary drink. There was a very happy atmosphere with lots of laughter. Members remarked on the high quality of food and the friendly staff.

Hello Ladies! Here are some of the snaps I took at our Annual Dinner. My apologies to you all for the quality of the photos. I think I will need to revert to using my camera in future rather than my mobile. I’m sorry not everyone is shown – many of you were understandably blinking at the bright flash so I did not include you.

20th Feb | Indian Cookery Demonstration

This week’s outing was a visit to Dove Close where Capel Ladies Club members were treated to a demonstration of Indian cookery by Sati Webb.  Sati was taught Indian cooking by her mother and has had 20 years experience of the art. Her speciality is Indian vegetable samosas.

Thirty-five members along with residents of Dove Close followed with interest the preparation and cooking, and enjoyed sampling the samosas at the end.  Sati has a clear and engaging manner which made the demonstration entertaining as well as easy to follow, and everybody went home with a very detailed samosas recipe. Perhaps the outcome will be special Capel Samosas!

19th Sept | Dove Close meeting

Our “Out” meeting at Dove Close was scheduled as an Indian Cookery Demonstration, but – once again! – we had to re-think on our feet as the speaker was ill on the night!

Seven residents joined us, including one gentleman, and Shirley and Mary organised the games. We had two games of Bingo and two quizzes, one about food and one about geography followed by refreshments. We stayed chatting for quite a while afterwards, and the residents seemed very pleased to have us there saying they hope we will go again. It was a very convivial evening and a lovely warm place to go on a chilly night. Sofas and arm chairs for some of us so it was almost like being in someone’s sitting room! We all agreed we must try to repeat the visit as they made us very welcome.

18th Jul | Sandringham Visit

Sandringham02We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our day trip to Sandringham! If anything it was a bit too warm, but no-one was complaining! We left Capel at 9.30 with a full coachload and stopped for coffee at Swaffham at the Ecotech Centre. This is next to the huge wind turbine with a viewing platform that you can actually climb up to if you have a mind!  None of us did, however, and we went on to Sandringham enjoying the beautiful Breckland scenery on the way.  Continue reading
